Anatomy of a Modern Engineering Post on y7.hk
A stress test for the y7 reading engine: callouts, diff blocks, KaTeX formulas, a circular avatar video, figure galleries, spoilers, and a font switcher.

This article collects every single visual, typographic, and media feature of our article rendering engine.
1. Callouts and Asides
Callouts follow the site’s overall monochrome style — clean inset blocks, no traffic-light rainbow of colored borders:
Uses a soft translucent –muted background and the system border. Blends in with the typography without pulling attention away from the article.
The Aa Serif button in the top-right corner switches the font to the Georgia serif for long reads. The setting is automatically saved in the browser.
2. Images and Media

Comparing two variants (media grid)
A two-image grid for comparing “Before” and “After” interfaces:

A circular video component integrated into the card interface:

/me.mp4
3. Code, Diff Patches, and Terminal
Refactoring diff patch
Inserted lines are highlighted in a soft emerald, removed lines in a muted red:
export async function handleRequest(req: Request): Promise<Response> {
- const legacyToken = req.headers.get("x-legacy-token");
- if (!legacyToken) return new Response("Unauthorized", { status: 401 });
+ const authSession = await verifyAgentSession(req);
+ if (!authSession.valid) {
+ return Response.json({ error: "Session expired" }, { status: 403 });
+ }
return await processWorkflow({
- mode: "sync",
+ mode: "streaming-duplex",
timeout: 30000,
});
}
Terminal command (Bash)
The $ prompt symbol isn’t copied to the clipboard, thanks to the user-select: none selector:
git clone https://github.com/yakushev/Y.git && cd Y
npm install
npm run build
4. Math and KaTeX Formulas
Display math
Complex formulas render with horizontal scrolling support on mobile devices:
\mathcal{L}_{\text{total}} = \alpha \cdot \mathbb{E}_{x \sim p_{\text{data}}}\left[\log D(x)\right] + \beta \cdot \sum_{i=1}^{N} \left\| \nabla_x f(x_i) \right\|_2^2
The Transformer Attention formula1:
\text{Attention}(Q, K, V) = \text{softmax}\left(\frac{QK^T}{\sqrt{d_k}}\right)V
Inline formulas
Math symbols and equations right inside the text: e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0, matrix multiplication A \times B \in \mathbb{R}^{m \times p}, and the gradient norm \|\nabla \theta\| \le \epsilon.
5. Tables with Scroll Support
Tables are automatically wrapped in a responsive scroll container and stay readable on smartphones:
| Method / Technology | Response Speed | Complexity | Status in 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Astro 7 SSG | < 20ms (Edge CDN) |
Low | In production |
| React 19 Islands | Partial hydration | Medium | Active |
| OKLCH Tokens | Instant (CSS) | Minimal | Standard |
| Web Audio API | Zero latency | Low | Enabled |
6. Collapsible Spoilers (<details>)

},

}
],
"usage": {
"prompt_tokens": 128,
"completion_tokens": 42
}
}System requirements and environment
- Node.js ≥ 22.0.0 or Bun ≥ 1.1
- Modern browser support with OKLCH colors
- Build memory: ~250 MB RAM
7. Checklists and Hotkeys
A task list in Markdown format:
- Colored callout support configured
- Diff code highlighting implemented
- KaTeX math formulas integrated
- Serif / Sans font switcher added
-
<figcaption>captions styled for media files - Interactive 3D canvas scenes planned
Hotkeys for control:
- Press ⌘ + K for global search.
- Press ~ to open the console.
- Press Esc to close any popup.
8. Quotes with Attribution
Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. Steve Jobs
9. Academic Footnotes
Text with a reference to the original transformers paper2. Clicking the footnote number instantly takes you to the footnote panel at the bottom, and clicking the ↩ arrow icon returns you exactly to where you were reading.

Why I Build My Personal Site as a Product
A personal site isn't a business card — it's a product with a roadmap, metrics, and users. Here's how I design y7.hk.
